The stage takes the peloton from the Swiss part of the Jura massif to the "Vosges" region through the a region of pasture lands that produces cheese, from Emmenthal to Munster, the wines of "Alsace," clocks and hydroelectricity. The Tour comes back to Colmar after a long absence. André Leducq won there in 1931, Hassenforder twice, in 1955 and 1959. Colmar assuredly is one of the most typical cities of Alsace, with very well preserved old areas, beautiful houses, squares and fountains. A city full of art and history that was at the heart of a decisive nattle during World War II before being liberated in February of 1945.
