Stage 14
Le Bourg d'Oisans - Courchevel
140km
Between Bourg d'Oisans, alpine center for mineralogy, and Courchevel, a very well-known ski resort, welcoming the Tour for the first time, two major hills make this stage one of the toughest. The climbs up the "Glandon" (1924 m), one of the most dreaded hills with a 1200-m difference in height and uneven slopes, and the "Madeleine" (2000 m), with a 20-km climb at 8%, are followed by an 18-km finish at 6.3% that's cmparable to that toward Arcalis, Andorra.
Courchevel, which has just celebrated its 50th anniversary, has played a major role in the development of the "3 vallées" group of ski resorts. Ski champion Emile Allais was born there and it hosted the 1992 Winter Olympics.
Climbs:
km 35.9 Col du Glandon 21.9-km climb at 5.2 %
km 86.1 Col de la Madeleine 20.8-km climb at 7.6 %
km 148 Courchevel 21.1-km climb at 6.3 %
