From the highest principalities of Europe, the Tour goes down toward the coast. Stage 11 has two parts to it: A mountainous area until Quillan and a flat route to Perpignan. The second climb up the "Port d'envalira" will remind everyone of the 1964 Anquetil - Poulidor duel. The Tour goes through Ax les Thermes, where the Tour stopped before, at the foot of the "col de la Chioula" in the "Ariége" region. The Tour enters the "Roussillon" region through Cathar itineraries and prehistorical roads. Last rider to win in Perpignan: Pascal Lino in 1993.
