Stage 8 Sauternes - Pau

This stage, which goes across the "Landes," is part of the Tour's history. It traditionally is a respite before the Pyrénées. The long, straight and flat roads in the Landes and in "Gascogne" make it easier for those who follow the Tour to break away - to the region's many good restaurants - than it does for the riders. Foie gras with the prestigious Sauternes wine, goose or duck conserves, duck cutlets, salmi of woodpigeon and cepes are only a few of the South-West of France's many specialties.
Other products await the riders in Pau, the city of King Henri IV, and in Bernadotte: chicken in the pot and the "Jurançon" wine. From one white one to another...
